XL5-40 Dedicated Linerless Desktop Printer
In August 2020, Bixolon launched their XL5-40 linerless label printer. It is the first desktop printer that was designed from the ground up to be linerless. This brings a number of important advantages over non-specialist desktop printers that support linerless labelling functions as an option. Most notably, jamming and curling can be an issue with regular labelprinters.
- The XL5-40 is uniquely designed for anti-jamming and anti-curling, featuring long-lasting two-platen rollers and a special paper path
- It cuts the coated face of the paper with a top-down guillotine system
- The peel-off sensor will not continue to print until the previous label is removed
- The XL5 prints at a speed up to 6 ips (152 mm/sec)
The advantages of linerless printing technology
In general, linerless technology has a number of advantages over traditional thermal printing. Without the space that liners take on a roll, it can fit approximately 40% more media length per roll. It reduces the time spent on changing rolls and cuts transportation and storage cost. Finally, linerless printing produces less waste and improves worker safety by reducing potential slip-and-fall accidents.
